Types of Pressure Sensor

Pressure sensors are part of our range here at Ixthus. They are available in two main types. These types of pressure sensor are; pressure transducers and pressure switches. Another type which we also offer is combined pressure and temperature transducers.

Pressure sensors are used to measure and detect a change in pressure in various environments. They are widely used throughout many industries to ensure the pressure in gases, liquids or solids is not becoming dangerous.

Types of Pressure Sensor – Pressure Switches

Pressure switches have a set pressure limit. This can be set to a custom requirement based on the application.

Once the pressure in a given area reaches that limit, it will cause the switch to change state, this could be connected to another device which is switched on or off by the pressure switch.  This alerts the user or other personnel that the pressure has reached the limit.

Pressure enters the pressure switch through a port. Single port pressure switches will measure pressure relevant to their set limit. Pressure switches with two ports will measure the two pressures entering the switch and signal when the pressure become different from each other. This is very useful for detecting blockages in extractor fans and other similar areas.

• Extractor fans
• HVAC applications
• Gas tank level monitoring
• DNA sampling machines

Types of Pressure Sensor – Pressure Transducers

Unlike pressure switches, pressure sensors can give an accurate measure of real-time pressure. They are a much more complex device and are therefore suitable for a wider range of complex applications.

Pressure transducers are available with different pressure ranges and with different approvals for different areas of application. We can supply the following types of pressure transducer;

Explosion-proof transducers

Intrinsically safe pressure transducers – with ATEX/IECEx and UL/CSA approval or SIL rated.

Liquid level meters – for measuring tank pressure and relating this to liquid level

Industrial pressure transducers – including our standard range and miniature range of pressure transducers.
