Ultrasonic Position Sensors

Ultrasonic Position Sensors, also known as ultrasonic displacement sensors, offer accurate distance measurement regardless of material, colour, transparency or surface.

Our Ultrasonic Position Sensors are from our supplier Migatron. They are well suited to a range of environments where traditional sensing devices can be compromised.

Ultrasonic Position Sensors

Ultrasonic Position Sensors

Ultrasonic Sensors use sound waves to detect position. They emit sound waves at a frequency which is too high for humans to hear. Once the sound waves hit an object they are reflected back to the sensor. The sensor can calculate the distance of the object based on how quickly the sound waves were reflected back.

Ultrasonic Position Sensors are used to precisely measure the distance to a target object. They are able to detect moving objects as well as static ones, moving objects can also be approaching or receding. They can detect small objects over long distances.

What is an Ultrasonic Position Sensor Used for?

Examples of applications for ultrasonic position sensors;

  • Bulk material on conveyor belts
  • Liquid level in storage tank
  • hopper/feeder level control
  • Roll diameter (wind or unwind)
  • Tank level control

And any other applications which require distant measurement - from objects including small spheres right up to large rolls of steel.

Advantages of using Ultrasonic Position Sensors

Ultrasonic Position Sensors can be used for long distance measurements (up to 40 ft) as long as close range applications (2inches). They have many other advantages;

  • Small and compact
  • Wide measurement ranges
  • Sturdy and suitable for extreme environments
  • Intrinsically safe options
  • Close range options
  • Non- Contact
  • The target material can be virtually anything and the ultrasonic sensor will still be able to sense it - clear, liquid, solid, soft, hard, porous and any colour.
  • Resistant to external disturbances such as vibration, ambient noise, infrared radiation, EMI radiation.

Ultrasonic Position Sensors from Ixthus

Migatron sensors offer extremely long life, high quality and durability - some applications using their sensors have been running 24/7 since the 1980’s and have yet to need a replacement.

All of our Ultrasonic Position Sensors can be seen above - for more information or to discuss your application please contact us.
