Torque Sensors and Transducers
Torque sensors and transducers are devices used to convert torsional mechanical inputs into electrical output signals. Torque is a twisting or turning force which can be applied either clockwise or anti clockwise.
There are two main types of torque sensor; these are Dynamic Torque Sensors and Static Torque Sensors. Dynamic torque sensors are used to measure rotary or angular measurements and can be split further into rotary torque sensors and non-contacting torque sensors. Non contacting torque sensors use magnetic or inductive technology to provide accurate measurements at high rotational speeds. Because they are non-contacting they offer long mechanical life and are maintenance free as they don’t use parts which will wear and tear.
Static torque sensors are used to measure a static reaction which involves little or no movement. They are reliable sensors with non-moving parts. Static torque sensors are often used in industrial applications and fatigue testing applications.
We can offer Torque Sensors and Transducers suitable for either static or dynamic force in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation. We have a range of different sizes available to suit different applications.
Applications for Torque Sensors and Transducers
Torque sensors are transducers are used across the industrial sector for a range of applications including;
• Tests for precision mechanics
• Screwing technology
• Biometric movements in the medical engineering sector
• Drag torque measurement in motors and pumps
• Measuring friction on torque bearings
• Torque application measurement to vehicle controls
• Friction torque measurement
