Marine Load Cells
Marine load cells are load cells which are suitable for use underwater and in marine applications.
Not all load cells on the market are suitable for marine applications as they may not have the required IP rating for underwater use.
Marine load cells can also be referred to as submersible load cells. They are used within hydrostatic or submersible vehicles such as boats, ships as well as submarines where they are used to a great depth in the ocean.
Applications for Marine Load Cells
Marine load cells can be used for a wide variety of applications, some of these are;
· Marine Towing
· Anchor Load Measurement
· Marine crane applications
· Dam force measurement
· Fishing boats – fishing cages and line tension
· Underwater vehicle recovery
· Platform retention
· Monitoring hoist loads
· Anchoring loads
· Oil drilling
· Subsea ploughs
Marine load cells are fully submersible making their application options endless.
Characteristics of Marine Load Cells
The environment in which marine load cells are required to operate is extremely harsh, this means that marine load cells must be robust and hard-wearing as well as waterproof to withstand these conditions.
To ensure Marine load cells are suitable for use in these harsh environments they must;
· Have the required IP rating (IP68 at a minimum)
· Be hermetically sealed (allowing no water inside)
· Be highly accurate
· Be extremely rugged
Most marine load cells will be able to operate up to 7,000 feet underwater whereas others will be better suited to splash-proof applications. If you have an application requiring marine load cells, please contact us.
